Significant Progress in Mulot ICT Software Factory Project.

The journey towards the proposed Mulot ICT Software Factory took a significant step forward this morning. Officials from the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA), under the Konza Jitume Initiative, visited the county government offices. This ambitious project began in 2021 when the County Government of Bomet submitted a proposal to the National Government to establish a software hub in the Mulot region, aiming to harness the ICT talent of Bomet’s youth.

During today’s meeting, it was proposed that a working party comprising county and national officials be formed to steer the ICT hub development. This team will include representatives from the Ministry of ICT and Digital, the County Government of Bomet, KoTDA, and the Information Communication and Technology Authority (ICTA).

Key proposals under consideration include the development of an ICT Digital Skills Hub and an ICT Training TVET on the Mulot ICT land. Additionally, a partnership with neighboring public schools and the local community was discussed. The complex will also feature recreational facilities accessible to the local community. Essential utilities such as access roads, water, and electricity will be connected to the complex, benefiting area residents. In line with government environmental policy, 10% of the complex will be greened.

It was agreed that the master plan for the complex, once developed, will be subjected to public participation.

Following the meeting, the team visited the Mulot ICT land. KoTDA officials Peter Gathongo and Mercyleen Ndatho were received by Deputy Governor H.E. Shadrack Rotich, the County Secretary, the CECM Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chief Officers ICT, CO Lands, CO Devolution, and other senior county officials.
